OBAMA PICKS VP. LANDS A ONE-TWO PUNCH AGAINST MCAIN'S NEGATIVE CAMPAIGN. By Chinyere Obinna O.

Is this the dream ticket that will lead America out of the crippling economic quagmire that has the nation caught up in a tailspin of financial deterioration, with the average middle class American family struggling daily to put meals on the table, struggling to pay the bills, stretching the wages from paycheck-to-paycheck, watching their carefully laid out plans of economic independence fizzle before their eyes, losing their homes to foreclosure, losing their jobs, while seeing the price of all commodities rise beyond their reach?

August 23, 2008. Democratic presidential contender Senator Barack Obama unveiled his running mate today in a move that has garnered major support across the nation from high ranking political power brokers as a politically savvy move that will solidify his chances at winning the presidential election. At a high-energy rally, held today in Springfield Illinois, Senator Obama introduced his running mate, Senator Joe Biden, 65, a man with a solid political resume and a foreign policy experience under his belt. Senator Obama’s move, while criticized by some as a poor choice, has received solid backing from others as a sound partnership that will counteract his seeming lack of experience. Senator Barack Obama has been dogged by persistent shots by his detractors as unvetted and politically inexperienced.

Senator Joe Biden has an extensive foreign policy background, has pushed several successful bills in Washington, and has been a key presence in the senate since 1972. He is seen by many as the perfect complement to Obama, who will appeal to the population that has so far resisted the powerful gravitational pull of the Obama political machine; the middle class, white conservative voters, who have issues with relating to Obama because of his race, his age and his lack of years on the senate. Biden comes from a working class, catholic background, with a strong work ethics and solid family values; he has been commuting daily to Washington from his home in Delaware so that he can be closer to his son, who got injured years ago, in a car accident that killed his first wife and claimed the life of his then one year old daughter Naomi in a tragedy that struck shortly after he won his first term in government in 1972. His other surviving son Beau is the Delaware Attorney General and a captain in the Army National Guard, who is being deployed to serve in Iraq.

At the rally held at the steps of the old State Capitol, Biden bounded across the stage in an energetic spurt that was meant to convey his bubbling good health and counteract any negativism that may arise about his age and recent surgery. He electrified the audience with a speech about hope and recapturing the glory of America, delivered with an unscripted, passionate appeal that spread a wave of excitement about the possibility of change for America.

In a one-two punch that was calculated to deliver a blow to the McCain’s negative party machine, Joe Biden stated that “you can’t change America when you support Bush 95% of the time as McCain did.” With that, he sent a clear message that America was ready for change, and only they could deliver that change.

The McCain political machine quickly seized upon the opportunity and immediately released an ad that highlighted the fact that Joe Biden, who lost a bid for presidency early in the democratic primaries, had made a statement about Obama’s lack of experience. The ad quoted Joe Biden in his own words, however political analysts have predicted that this should not have a far-reaching impact on their ticket since many political candidates have run against each other at some point in their career. Ironically, Senator Joe Biden will also be on the Senate ticket for the seventh time. In November, if he clinches a multiple win for both the Vice Presidency and the Senate, he will have the choice to resign from the Senate.

Senator Hillary Clinton, who was not chosen, showed her support for the Biden pick. Some in the democratic party has seen Obama’s failure to pick Hillary as a major mistake since Hillary already has a very strong base of support from middle class white women over forty, who are still smarting from the outcome of the democratic primary. They believe that an Obama/Clinton ticket would have been an electrifying ticket that would be hard to resist, while others believe that an Obama/Clinton ticket would just invariably translate to three people in the white house come November.
