October is National breast cancer awareness month.

At Our Very Own Place, we are very aware of the devastating damage that this insidious disease has unleashed on families and the toll it has taken on lives. We hope that bringing this information to the fore-front will spur someone to take steps against breast cancer. Breast cancer affects all of us in one way or another; every one knows of someone somewhere who has been affected by this disease. Please share the information with your loved ones, your mother, your sisters, your wives,your friends, your co-workers. Please join the fight against breast cancer and do your part to help eradicate the disease. There are various organizations that fund research for a cure. There are also various activities and events that sponsor fund raising efforts, which will also go towards breast cancer research. For the month of October, there is a lot that you can do to take a stand against breast cancer.

* Join the American Cancer Society in making strides against breast cancer. Join the walk against breast cancer and help fund the research against breast cancer. The New York event will take place on Sunday, October 19, 2008 in various parts of New York State. There will be other similar events taking place across the United States of America. * Plan an event to benefit breast cancer research. The Cancer Research Foundation has a set of tools to help you get started. Go to their website at Cancer Research Foundation to learn more.

* Make a donation towards the cure. Find out about the various organizations that fund research for breast cancer and make a donation to help the search for a cure.

* Volunteer. Give of your self and your time. Join the American Cancer Society as a volunteer and make a difference in the life of someone. To volunteer, go to the American Cancer Society website to learn more.

* Learn more about breast cancer. Knowledge is power, and the more you know, the more you can do. Go to to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure to learn more about the disease and advances against it.

* Get the facts. equip yourself to give breast cancer a one-two punch. Learn more about the disease.

* Learn BSE (Breast Self Examination). Learning about every nuance of your breast can make a difference in early detection. When you are familiar with the terrain of your breasts and you notice something different, it is time to speak to your doctor. Learn to perform BSE the proper way; go to the Susan G. Koman BSE link.

* Make your spending power count. Many companies contribute a certain percentage of their profits to cancer research. Spend your money with those companies and feel good knowing that the money you spent on yourself is also making an impact in cancer research. God bless you all
